phpBB3 is out and stable. Any possibility of upgrading?

Not going to happen, unless _Demo_ decides to crawl out of some nondescript hole and do the upgrading.

To reiterate: AFAIK, we don't have access to the board backbone, only _Demo_ does, and he's not around much. I don't think we even need to upgrade.
whicker: franpa is grammatically correct, and he still gets ripped on?
sweener2001: Grammatically correct this one time? sure. every other time? no. does that give him a right? not really.

Heh, it's funny because I made a thread about this around December.

Provided that we continue to not have problems with the current board, I see no reason why we should upgrade.

Well, the only problem I could see happening is keeping updated so the board isn't exploited. Looks to me the last update was in 2005. I'm pretty sure the current forum software is exploitable.

Early Retirement of 2.0.x
So I guess the Deadline is Feb. 1st, 2009 before the Zboard gets upgraded.

NO.

Phpbb3 is a slow ass pile of shit. Do not use it, I beg you all.

It is bar none the slowest and to me the ugliest message board software I have ever seen in 'action'. As much as a slug can be seen as being in action.

By default each registration attempt AND post causes the posting IP to be checked against a number of Anti-Spam blacklists. This causes massive delay when posting and should be disabled to restore speeds close to phpbb2 (maybe even be faster?)

Check IP against DNS Blackhole List:
If enabled the user’s IP address is checked against the following DNSBL services on registration and posting: spamcop.net, dsbl.org and www.spamhaus.org. This lookup may take a while, depending on the server’s configuration. If slowdowns are experienced or too many false positives reported it is recommended to disable this check.
I think franpa is mostly right, wow.

It had a rather nasty effect on our ISP forums for a while when they upgraded to phpbb3 but they managed to narrow it down to that particular feature.
