ePSXe 1.6.0 a Trojan!!!?

Post by neo_bahamut1985 »

Had the weirdest thing happen to me just now, I was setting up Delta to play some PSX games and I wanted to use the PEC plugin. I directed Delta to use said plugin. Well, as I loaded up the ISO, my antivirus software tells me that "epsxe.exe" is a trojan, which strangely applied to the .rar file it came with (which, for the record, came from the official www.epsxe.com website). It tells me these are trojan viruses...why the bloody heck is it telling me this?

Strange indeed. I'll know now not to pick up a PEC plugin next time I want to play epsxe. Anyways, you might have a faulty plugin. Sounds like the PEC plugin, whatever it is.... I don't use it. Has a virus in it. I'd probably just stick with P.E.O.Ps plugins or Pete's D3D.

or it could be a false positive alarm by antivirus fault....

in my example:
program spywaredetector ( http://systemsoftlab.com/spydetector.html ) detected as win32.heur virus which is quite odd,
since i already use it in weeks, but only declared as virus after i updated the virusbase, and no other program were declared "infected" in total full-virus-scan.

It is a false positive no doubt. Nothing to see here, move along now.

ePSXe 1.6.0 a Trojan
Bullshit. In fact I want to say that again -- the idea that ePSxe is a virus... is BULLSHIT.

BULLSHIT I TELL YOU!

Sorry, but that's fact, not opinion.

PS:
If a mod thinks this is rude, change, change "bullshit" to "bull plopp".

If anyone gets the reference (the term "bull plopp"), they get a cookie.

I'll even be kind and give you a hint:
The reference is to a certain episode of a certain cartoon. The episode parodies a movie called "The Island". "The boy holding a donut in the air".

We do not condone censorship around here.

I really don't give a fuck if someone is being rude. This is the Internet, after all.

I'm not worried about the "rudeness".

But epsxe being a virus is cowshit afterall, anyway :)

Bull Plopp:
mentioned in a cartoon -- the cartoon has a kid with spiky hair. The hair is the same colour as the skin.
The skin colour.

"The funny man with green hair, he makes kids laugh" -- but outside of show biz he is a corrupt man, who does all kinds of dubious things.

And please don't forget the fat politician with a purple suit, and slightly squeaky voice.

Find the reference, and you get a cookie.

I think I've given way too many hints, but if anyone gets the reference...
oven baked goodness will come your way!

I am having the same problem! I googled and found this thread. AVG goes crazy any time I try to open it or even just click on it once. I get an error after I click ignore, intending to open it anyway, so I can't use it!!! :x Is there any way to get AVG not to recognize it as a trojan horse? Oh, and particularly, it recognizes it as "trojan horse generic10.WAH."

More accurately, he cries like a teenage girl that didn't like the car her parents bought for her.

My anti-virus program (BitDefender Professional) also locks out any executables it find suspicious, and it doesn't have a white list of any kind.

If yours works the same way as mine, the only way to force the antivirus program to not scan the executable is to simply disable the scanner completely, which isn't a very smart thing to do, unless you unplug your network cable before you do it.

It seems turning off the Resident Shield in AVG fixes the problem. If you are worried about security you could just turn it back on when you are done playing.

That's retarded. I hate it when antivirus software does that..! Whatever, I'll just keep it.

Open the AVG User Interface

Double Click Resident Shield

Click Manage Exceptions

Click Add Path

Choose the ePSXe directory

Click OK

Click OK

Click Save Changes

Close the window

Yeah, I figured it out. :D I had to update to AVG 8.0 so that I could allow exceptions in the resident shield. (I was still running 7.5) I basically did what MattCatt said, but I got my help from Yahoo Answers. Everything is working fine now. Well I'm glad my virus software is good enough to do that now lol.

We already know it was a false positive.

And no one else is worried about your stupid cartoon, so it balances out.
But epsxe being a virus is cowshit afterall, anyway
But ePSXe CONTAINING a virus is not. IT is, in fact, QUITE possible for an executable file to be infected by a virus.
It's less likely, but still not impossible, for one downladed from the emulator's official site to contain one.

It's HIGHLY possible for it to be downloaded clean, and THEN infected by the end-user's system.

Your knee-jerk spewing of profanity does no one any good. Just because it was a false positive THIS time doesn't mean that it's NEVER possible for epsxe.exe to be a virus, or for a functional ePSXe install to also be riddled with virii.
