Okay, before I get into the ugly details, short question:
How do I save states in a way to be able to send those states to other computers?
So, that's basically my question about save states. I'm part of a translation of Earthbound into Portuguese and I am wanting to play through the game right now and save states at critical points in the game. I want to be able to then take whatever resulting file is created and place it in a folder that corresponds with that part of the game.
The main reason for this is, when a translator wants to go into a part of the game where their inserted text is, they can just access that folder and transfer that save state into their ZSNES directory to go straight there.
Now, I originally had planned to just make a save state for each of the slots and just use them myself, but every time I try and transfer a save state it doesn't seem to carry any meaningful data and I revert to my most recent savestate. I hope that made sense >_<
Is there any way to accomplish this?

First of all, neat project. I have a lot of respect for translators for the Mother series.
Second of all, by default, on Windows, save states are saved in the game's respective ROM folder. Therefore, I would send those states, which are labeled by number, to your friend. In fact, I would even rename them to better describe the save, and let your friends rename them to "Earthbound (U).zst" or whatever_your_ROM_name_is.zst.
Godspeed on your translation. (I don't believe in 'luck' )

Use SRMs.
States are too ROM-dependant, and could totally break if you save at the wrong time (for example, a state made in SD3 (J) will make the game crash if you load it with the patched-to-english version whenever there's a text box up).

Thanks for the encouragement!
I'll play around with your suggestions and see how it all works out. It would make a HUGE difference if we could have savestates or the SRMs throughout the game!
Thanks again!
