I used AVG for a couple years until I found at this site that Avira could perform a bit better.

The only complaint I have against Avira is, as it's been stated before, the pop ups.

AVG limited it effectiveness when I noticed that it mysteriously deactivated by itself and I was not using a trial. ESET Security is troublesome if you forget your password and can only work if obtained by legal means. ESET works fine but at first it acts like Vista asking you for everything.

You can disable the pop-ups. Read the first page of this thread.

it's much lighter weight on xp sp3 than avg 8.5 was. haven't bothered with avg 9 since msse is running so nicely on that box.

i'm hoping that you're saying this after reading about the botched update that brought a few companies and universities to their knees. cause that's funny.

Here's a recent comparison of popular free and paid virus scanners. I have dropped Avira for Microsoft Security Essentials.

I went through several antivirus suites (free and commercial) before I stumbled upon this one.
whicker: franpa is grammatically correct, and he still gets ripped on?
sweener2001: Grammatically correct this one time? sure. every other time? no. does that give him a right? not really.

Why are they all trying to look really gaudy. They visually remind me of those scam/malware ones you get from Russia. What's wrong with looking clean and professional by using standard controls and stuff that integrate with other programs properly?

That attitude is SO last century. It's all about branding and custom UI nowadays.

And people complain about linux having Qt and GTK+. The 2 seem to integrate together much better than all of the random-ass Windows programs that all look and behave differently, and generally look way less gaudy and ugly in the process (depending on theme selected). Though I suppose this is an argument for the other thread.

now that i think about it,
thats make zsnes a decade ahead in trends, as it begin with its own branding and custom UI ...

Of course, that was standard in the DOS days where ZSNES started.
I guess what's old is new again?
