How could they have even considered this for a second?

Because they're in bankruptcy, and need money to pay their debtors?
Anyways, when was the last good Mortal Kombat? A decade ago now?

Fun fact: It's one of three or so of their games that actually made a good profit.

I thought people here knew this, hence me not explaining it in the first post.

Y'all suck.

and EA own Activision, or they did waaay back when Tony Hawk's 2 was out.

anyways, MK Trilogy has huge loading times unless you run it in a ps2 with the faster disc reading option enabled.

I don't think they own Namco as they merged with Bandai to form Bandai Namco Holdings. Square-Enix does own Taito and also recently Eidos.

IIRC, they never did own Activision.

Activision owns or is partnered with a lot of heavy hitters such as Vicarious Visions, Red Octane, Bizarre Creations, and [fucking] Vivendi/Blizzard.

My bad, I just didn't remember the intro video sequence correctly.

What part of "I'm speaking from a financial point of view" do you not understand.

From a financial point of view, the motive is clear.

They are in bankruptcy, and need to become solvent rapidly.
Selling a valuable brand is a good way to raise the cash they need.

Long-term potential is meaningless if you don't survive the short term.

that's why i seconded gil

i was also adding another reason why that particular game is dumb. seriously, that joker fatality was pure awesome. and they wrecked it.

i am holding out hope that they thought of anything else they can do immediately to make enough money to not go completely broke before deciding to sell off their one "cash cow" franchise

Good brand is one thing. The only damn brand actually making you profit might be another.

That said, you're probably right, but this still seems to be a move that will, in the end, harm Midway more than it will help it.

Probably. If they can find another way to remain solvent, it would be a better deal.

Could also blame EA. The loss of the NFL license killed Blitz.

What's the bet EA buy it.
If so, MK is screwed.
