Prequel.
Or flashbacks.

They better not fuck up the continuity.

Saw the conference live. Team Ninja? If this steers Metroid even further away from nonlinear exploration towards linear action, or worse, I'm going to fucking kill people.

Too dramatic.
I'm looking forward to this... looks a bit like the old 2D style mixed with newer 3D style.

I'm torn.

On the one hand, I want to see the Metroid 2 metroids show up again. They were awesome.

On the other hand, this is before Metroid 1. There shouldn't be ANY metroids.

not necissarily, it could span quite a long period of time, or jump around.

Didn't you see the final scene from super metroid flash with Mother Brain zapping the Metroid larva.

I wonder if Nintendo thought about introducing Time Travel™...

Probably Dark Samus' phazon corruption has destabilized her in time and she's fallen backwards, taking the metroids with her. And now they aren't breaking continuity because they're imploding Vulcan*backspace*erasing it!

(Sidenote: I LOVED the new Star Trek movie. And don't really give a damn that it stomps all over continuity, since Trek's continuity is as solid as moth-eaten lace on the best days)

No. I'd say it's not nearly dramatic enough, if they do that. There's gonna be a goddamn genocide, I swear.

Implied. Sort of.

I'm still ready to adapt whatever they might dish to my own sauce.
Although the zimbabwean dollar has been revalued, so it's only worth ~ZW$6.9 now.

Obviously, metroids predate Metroid 1, since they had to breed on sr388 and get 'harvested' by pirates, then the federation had to get a clue about all that and assess the risk.

http://www.1up.com/do/previewPage?pager ... 74587&p=44

the game takes place between Super Metroid and Metroid Fusion says the creator. it is Metroid 3.5, apparently it will largely ignore the prime games more or less and stick to what they as R&D1 have made. They asked for Team Ninja's help because they had only made handheld games.

Obviously there are some flashbacks but the game us supposed to take place after Super, and explain more about Adam. The random black dude is a Federation trooper under Adam's command.

Metroid: Other M is NOT Metroid Dread, apparently that is also being worked on (probably by americans)

It's fucking Metroid. Who gives a fuck about continuity, honestly? Just enjoy it like you enjoy Zelda and get on with it.

I didn't say I cared about continuity, just the Japanese Metroid developer giving Retro Studios the finger

:'(

Why can't the pirates steal 'em from federation researchers anymore?

I always liked that Metroid was a cohesive world.
...
Then they turned around and decided metroids were immune to missiles.
