Windows 7 screensaver not working...wireless interference?

Post by nintendo_nerd »

So, about a month or so ago, Windows 7 Home Premium's screensaver was working fine and dandy like sour candy. Standby mode used to work, too, until about two weeks ago. Based on what I've found on google, there are a few reasons that can cause the screensaver to freak out, wireless keyboards and/or mice. I recently got a Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 1000, and I noticed people reported their screensaver no longer working properly (with this and other similar devices). The screensaver will either A)go on after the set amount of time and go into standby normally, B)go on after the set amount of time, almost go into standby mode only to cancel and show the desktop. Or C) It will go to both screensaver and standby and then go back to the desktop. I've tried numberless combinations of time, screensaver modes (3D text, mystify, etc), and power settings (1, 2, 3, 10, 15 minutes) and still, it freaks out. I've even go into the keyboard settings in the control panel in hopes of finding some setting that's conflicting, and I didn't find anything there, either (and yes, the drivers are the most up to date). This constant screensaver/power mode going off and on can't be good the monitor. Lengthy post, I know, aren't there any programs out there that can force the screensaver to go on, or somehow override the wireless conflicts?

Well, past a certain point we assume it's a PEBCAK or ID-10-T error.

Try the BIOS, I remember old ones letting you adjust what wakes the computer from standby/hibernation in there.

you could just turn off the monitor...

basically this error can't be corrected without replacing the user.

99% it's a lot of other background stuff you're doing that's interfering with it.

Then again, only you magically have these issues.

sorry, but when it comes to NN and tech talk threads: nintendo_nerd + tech talk + post a thread with questions there + either chickening out from the suggestions and/or he's the only one with the issue = double facepalm.

Not necessarily... this one can be mostly be directed to nintendo_nerd here. go ahead, search his thread history in this forum. over 95% of his threads in this forum, either he was the only one with the problem (or one of the VERY FEW), and/or he chickened out of everyone else's suggestions.

on another note, what is up with your hate towards me as of late?

No hatred. That would require me to care more than I really do.

I'm just mocking the big hissyfit you threw in the other thread that you locked when it went south for you. That's all.

so what changed?

cause-and-effect is a concept you need to get into your head. you have the effect; find the cause.
nintendo_nerd wrote:wireless interference
move the offending device(s) away from the wireless receiver (or vice-versa).

unfortunately, both of these suggestions involve trial and error, which devolves into just "error" if you don't know what you're trying to do.

shoutrollken is more proper in meaning, but...

trollryuken in grungy cps1 ryu/ken-speak? flawless.

Oy gevalt.... I believe it may be working now, but nonetheless, I'll bite the bullet and lay off until I've done extensive research before posting an issue from here on out. This is something that I've been thinking about for a while and you're all right. I admit that I'm not following advice and chickening out, and I most likely deserved to be eviscerated for being the way I am.
