Just starting the thread in the subforum is Special Olympics worthy.

I know some guys who are genuine nVidia fanboys here in Germany and they never heard of him.

i'm going with the "Total shuttins" thing again.

if you haven't heard of chris, you aren't a nvidia fanboy. he has accounts on nearly all of the english based communities and has done numerous reviews, comparison articles and has provided nvidia support since well before i had geforce 2.

Incompatible with your assertion that only "total shutins" wouldn't know of him. In fact, it seems directly opposed to said assertion.

*facepalms* Oops, now I know what you mean.

Then again, you're giving high praise for someone in relative terms, isn't well known.

He pretty much single handedly addressed most of the SLI complaints, issues and faults for along time there, and I used to feed him bug info to pass on to nvidia from time to time.

He definitely made things easier for alot of people.

This has probably more to do with how Germans never appreciate foreign goods/achievements/inventions etc, but adapt them to their liking. For every English hardware community out there, there is a German equivalent. It's the same with everything. Movies are dubbed, music videos get their own versions so German stars are featured, etc.

If Chris work has made it to German nVidia communities, then only because one of the few open-minded members translated one of his articles.

Yeah, I'm a total shut in because I've never heard of some Internet celebrity until now.

Yeah, I bothered to Google him, and still didn't really know much more than "Oh, some guy who posted on some Nvidia related web forum."

Seriously, guys. I don't post on or follow any hardware related forums. Except for maybe 4chan's /g/, which I read occasionally. I get most of my Nvidia related news from links posted on IRC.

Although if I wasn't such a shut in and spent more time outside, I would probably care even less about some so-called Internet celebrity, unless he happens to live in my area and we go out for drinks on occasion or something.

Oh, and I'm not really an NVidia fanboy, or an ATI fanboy either. In fact, I haven't picked out my own video hardware since I bought a Creative Graphics Blaster Extreme (3DLabs Permedia 2 4MB) years ago. My current video card was picked out by my brother who arranged the parts for my early birthday present last year, a GeForce 9800 GTX+. The previous video card and system were selected by someone in the #foobar2000 IRC channel back in 2004, and that was a Radeon 9800 Pro 256MB, with the cheapest ass cooling fans evar. (They died under strain and dust clogging in under a year, I had to replace the heatsink.)

I'll probably buy Fermi something when it comes out.

Maybe I'm an NVidia fan, if only because I think that ATI's drivers and control panel suck more, and so does their hardware video decoder acceleration.

Edit: I posted the news to #foobar2000, and the only two people to respond both asked "Who?" I'm still waiting on the guy from Malaysia who is solely responsible for posting all the latest NVidia news and ATI mockery.

yeah well, it isn't new that German's like to pirate others work.

Agreed. Which explains why I've been kinda out of the computer loop (hell I didn't know there was a USB 3.0 until Phonymike posted that he wanted a system with USB 3.0), as well as out of the IRC thing till recently.

I'm more into cars and such these days, but I like tinkering with computers, just not as much.
