Well I've been called worse things than "pompous" before, so I don't mind. Feel free to call me an idiot on the internet, where your opinion totally matters.

Keep note that I'm only generalising. I mean, for example, look at how the poverty rate has declined in China over the last few decades.

This is a country that largely missed out on the Industrial Revolution. Hell, it is now the only third world country with it's own national space program.

I'm certainly not saying it's perfect, nor that the CCP doesn't do evil things to its own citizens, such as censorship, cruel punishment to political enemies, and whatnot. I'm quite sure the US isn't so perfect, either.

I don't even fully support communism. There is a big difference between supporting something and publicly calling something a good idea.

Overall, I'm more of a political centrist. Neither left nor right. Impartial.

Now, what I really love is how this so-called discussion came from us talking about HDTV specs. Only on the zboard, right?

China is a nuclear power; I'd hardly consider them to be a third-world country.

You can't possibly compare the two. The Chinese are practically Nazis.

How are the Chinese like the nazis?
Also, Godwin's Law ftw.

America is just as capable of evil as the Chinese are. If not more so.

Their appalling human rights record for one. Also, Tibet.

Feel like providing some evidence to support that opinion, or did you just pull it out of your limey ass?

Take it up with the UN.

Personally, I believe that Afghanistan was a justified albeit botched invasion.

On the other hand, Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11, and so I have to suspect ulterior motives with that. We may never know the whole truth, but I certainly don't believe that the Bush administration had the best interest of the Iraqi people in mind on that one.

However, I do believe that in the long-term they will be better off than they were under Saddam's rule. Just because he wasn't a threat to us doesn't mean that he wasn't a butcher to his own people.

Regardless, those were two wars initiated by a single administration. The PRC has been around for 60 years and has a list of human rights violations miles long. Christ, they execute people for tax evasion over there. Even Texas isn't that crass.

Haha, even I'm not foolish enough to get bogged down in a religious debate.

Of course oil was a motivating factor. Good luck trying to get anyone responsible to admit to it though.

I think religious discussion can be very interesting actually.
It's just that an internet forum is probably the worst possible medium for it.

Discussion about what?
There's nothing to discuss, other than the fact that religion is a tool used by people in power to control the masses.

i c wat u did thar

Though to give a serious answer: It's fun trying to understand why an intelligent person would hold beliefs that are both irrational and very specific (like Mohammed being the last prophet or Jesus Christ being the Messiah described in the old testament, or that we have an immortal soul that needs to be extinguished/reunited with Brahman etc. etc.)

I think the caption kind of fails a bit; that's clearly supposed to be a mirror, not another picture.
