Just to let you know, some ps1 modchips (probably the older kind, so if you have a recent kind, it may behave a lot better) don't actually spit proper pal60, leading to blergh when you try to convert that to other formats.

fyi, most PS1 games rely on the crappy display of an NTSC TV to smooth over the absurd amounts of dithering et al.

a "perfect" image from a PS1 usually looks like hell, and not what the developer intended.
Why yes, my shift key *IS* broken.

Not to mention these converters aren't made for consoles in mind, so they might be several frames delayed.

A fine example of that are FF8's dialogue/menu boxes.

You mean the crappy quality of a composite video signal.

They look like complete ass via s-video on NTSC TVs too. And as s-video is still TV-encoding, it's not down to NTSC VS PAL yet, just RF VS composite VS something decent.

Got a bit of money, decided against the RGB>HDMI thing. Went with a TV instead. It is a CRT.

Why CRT? Light guns don't work on an LCD, and I'm a big fan of Ninja Assault for the PS2. CRT's are also dirt cheap on ebay. I am driving to collect it tonight.
It will also handle older game systems with their various output oddities, like the PS1 and PS2, far better than LCD would.

I'm mildly surprised you couldn't find one at a local thrift store or garage sale, honestly.

I don't know about garage sales and/or Britain, but here in southern California, thrift store chains won't even accept CRTs anymore. Something about not wanting to deal with potential lead contamination.

It looks pretty awesome in the photo.

Was it a small sharpie or one of those larger marks-a-lot ones? Also, getting it to be even must've been very difficult, because going over old parts remoistens them, and they just generally don't cover very well to begin with. How did you get it to be consistent throughout? did it take multiple markers?

Well, you could always use something that's not permanent marker. Like a paint that's more fit for plastics (I wouldn't know which, but yeah.).

I just think a black PS1 looks pretty cool. It really fits well next to a PS2. Obviously not an exact match, but an older sibling of the same line.
