EDF! EDF! EDF! TWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!*

Post by Gil_Hamilton »

Now with video.
http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/05/earth ... cks-earth/
Damn aliens, digging holes in my backyard!

Still present from the first game include:
Giant ants!
Giant spiders!
Giant robots!
On both sides!
Hilarious explosion physics!
Multi-barrel grenade launchers!
Fully destroyable cityscapes!

Notable upgrades include:
Shields!
Jetpacks!
Giant CYBORG ants!
Giant wasps!
RELOADABLE laser rifles!
POWER SUITS!
A budget, for all the dirty graphics whores out there!

Missing in action:
Sandlot. Why they aren't developing, I couldn't tell you. Fortunately, it looks like Vicious Cycle "gets it."

Tentative conclusion:
The greatest game on the XBox 360 JUST. GOT. BETTER.
And PS3 owners aren't left out in the cold this time.

SEND 'EM ALL TO HELL!
YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

*Okay, 4. Plus a strategy game(why?). But whatever. The PS2 games never came to America, and SCEA can eat a bag of giant ants. The 360 games are remakes of the PS2 games anyways, near as I can tell.

The preceding has been a public service announcement.

EDF was a generic side scrolling space shooter for the SNES.

Why would I get excited about a sequel?
<pagefault> i'd break up with my wife if she said FF8 was awesome

Whoo! It's always good to have giant robots and ants. Now there's simply more of them. The sequel (well, according to the european title, it's the first) gets a few plays on my PS2, so another sequel on the PS3 certainly isn't bad news.

EDF + Oneechanpon = <3

Insectoid-ish aliens have regularly featured in fictional settings since, eh, Starship Troopers, why would this be any more related than Alien or Starcraft?

Apparently, the first of the franchise got released in Europe under the title Monster Attack.
Just to confuse the series lineage further.

Well, this one seems to be one of those titles that was/is very rare even in Europe, because I've never seen that game in any of the local stores over here. Come to think of it, any titles published by AgeTec were always rare, if not almost non-existent.

Where were the insects in alien? Because I must have blinked and missed that part.

*EDIT* Oh and I'm assuming your talking about the film and not some alien game, I never played any of the alien games(except for AVP for the SNES and a RTS on the PS2, which both sucked balls).

no, you misread. he's saying "having alien insects doesn't automatically make it related to starship troopers."
Why yes, my shift key *IS* broken.

Yeah, actually make that Aliens, the creature itself is only vaguely insectiod in appearance, but the way they're portrayed in the later movies is reminiscent of social insects (just like the Zerg, and the bugs in Starship Troopers).

No, you misread. But that was because of my stupid wording. I should have said "Where were the insect-like aliens in alien?"

I never looked at an alien before and thought they looked anything like an insect, they just look like...aliens. I can't really think of anything on earth that they look like. I don't even think of the face huggers as insect-like, arachnoid yeah, but not insect like.

Oh, ok. I can see that.

The original EDF (the arcade version) is still the best - with better graphics and sound than the dumbed-down SNES version :)

That's not the original, it's a totally different game that happens to share a name in english.

Now you people stop bringing up the unrelated scrolling shooter with no giant bugs!

How sad is it that when I first saw this topic months ago, I had never heard of EDF before. Oh, and the first thing I thought of instead was that DBZ mod for Half-Life, Earth's Special Forces.
