The following pages will aid you patching your games using zsnes/snes9x:

For general soft patching (so you don't permanently change your rom) Click Here.

For more advanced hard patching, and if you need to add or remove a header, refer to this page

Do note as well that if your rom is blackscreening, crashing early on, or is otherwise very glitchy, you likely have to add or remove a header. See Evan's link.

SNES Central has gone through an overhaul and the patching tutorials are not there anymore.

The ZSNES documentation answers all questions about soft-patching roms. Hard-patching roms requires an external tool, such as LunarIPS or SNESTool.
whicker: franpa is grammatically correct, and he still gets ripped on?
sweener2001: Grammatically correct this one time? sure. every other time? no. does that give him a right? not really.

IPSWin has been known to corrupt games. Use LunarIPS instead.

Make sure of the following:

1. the ROM is a good checksum and clean. (verify it with NSRT)
2. you have autopatching enabled in ZSNES.
3. You may need to add/remove a header in the rom and/or the patch itself.
4. Put a copy of the patch in your saves folder (and your ROMs folder also, just to be safe), it should be named the exact same as your rom. So if the ROM was called Bahamut Lagoon [!].smc this is how it should be setup:

Code: Select all

Bahamut Lagoon [!].smc
Bahamut Lagoon [!].ips
And that's all there is to it. Have any more questions, feel free to ask.
<Nach> so why don't the two of you get your own room and leave us alone with this stupidity of yours?
NSRT here.

Use the GUI (included with version 3.2) if you don't know how to work in the console window.

The rom keeps freezing when I try to start a new game, it did it before before I applied the patch that changed it to english. Anyone else have this problem, or more specifically fix it?

Chances are the rom's checksum is bad, get another rom. Scan it with NSRT without the patch, just to be sure.
