zsnes causes itunes and spotify to crash

I've run into a problem that I don't recall happening before. When I try to listen to spotify or itunes while using zsnes, as soon as I open zsnes (or make it the predominate program) the other programs crash. This only happens when I have sound enabled in zsnes but I'd really like to have both going since hearing sound effects makes the games quite a bit easier to play.

I've messed around with numerous settings and nothing seems to fix it.

Any thoughts or suggestions? (my apologies if this has come up before, I searched but found nothing)

what OS? what version of zsnes?

Setup ZSNES so it uses your mixer properly. To support more sound systems, make sure to use a libao-supporting zsnes.

If zsnes doesn't use your mixer, it will try to hog the sound resource itself, which won't end well for your other apps (or zsnes, whichever grabs it first).

I'm using win7 and what I thought was the most up to date version of zsnes, v 1.51. But, there doesn't seem to be an option for this though I could just be blind..

I'm having trouble finding anything about a libao-supporting zsnes, what I have found seems to be help installing it for linux os. I'll keep looking but if you guys know what's going on I'd appreciate a reply too, thanks

32- or 64-bit? what's your sound hardware? have you tried installing the latest drivers and the latest directx update?

Oh! looking into my sound drivers fixed it. Apparently Nvidia's sound driver was conflicting with zsnes and when I disabled it, zsnes started playing well with the other audio programs

Did you also have ZSNES configured to use the primary sound buffer?
