Toast

Post by Nach »

Well, let's talk about it.

Anyone find it yet?

If you did find it, don't give away how it's done, just PM me telling me how it's done so I can verify you found it.

Any speculation on how to find it?

First person to find it without cheating and PMs me gets some sort of prize.
Discuss what that prize should be too.

I imagine it has something to do with a verified good Mario Paint ROM and usage of the mouse in port 2... But alas, I know nutzing.

Somebody played a joke on you, Nach. 8)

They are NOT called "toaster plugins", and they are NOT on the same dialog box.

I feel so close. I think I see a pattern in the clues you have been dropping, and in the GUI itself. I doubt it's just a coincidence.

edit: Yeah I thought so. I also just thought of something new...

I heard something about adding an nsrt header to the Mario Paint rom, but I can't seem to add a header to this game at all. I've also tried enabling the snow effect, to no avail. :\

*sigh* I R too dumb for this.

I'm guessing... the snow effect has nothing to do with this.

edit: I thought maybe you could do something with the header. I thought it had something to do with pressing the "change add-on controller" key. I thought that the Toaster Plugin dialog looked suspiciously like a number of other dialogs in the GUI.

Unfortunately, my ideas have not helped me find the Great Toaster Plugin yet...

Discuss what the prize should be... OK. Hmmm. Surely a toast aficionado would appreciate a one-year subscription to the bread-of-the-month-club.

I have to admit that I'm not any closer to solving this "puzzle" than before.
whicker: franpa is grammatically correct, and he still gets ripped on?
sweener2001: Grammatically correct this one time? sure. every other time? no. does that give him a right? not really.

Finding it without reading the source would be pretty lucky...

I can't even find it with reading the source. :P Hell, I can't even find the word toast anywhere in the source.

Nach's second picture proves the string is present in the binary. You can make a wild guess if the string is in the binary and not in the source...

Am I the only one that finds it ironic that we constantly hear the song and dance about the GUI being a pain to add to and modify and yet time is spent on a silly screen that really doesn't do anything useful for emulation

Not much time was spent to do it. That's yet another hint to find it.

Its clearly the add-ons window that has just been reworded. That would be simple to do.... But how to activate it could be unrelated...

I think it has something to do with the Add-Ons window, too. However, I think there is more to that story. I am referring to the fact that in v1.41 the Add-Ons window has been changed from v1.40.

edit: I'm glad you guys are getting a kick out of this. Maybe it is your reward for being so underappreciated that you get to see ZSNES users struggle to find your secret.

edit: found the "toast" in the source. Guess I'm disqualified and I won't be able to get the bread of the month club subscription. At least my curiosity will be satisfied, in a matter of time...

FOUND IT!!! Thanks to your clue. It confirmed a suspicion I had after inspecting the source. Bravo, Nach! May the toast gods bless all your endeavors.

I cheated. I don't get the prize. Keep looking, everybody.

Very clever.

Props to MaxSt for proving he found it without spoiling the fun for everybody else.

How about this for a prize: The winner gets his/her name referenced somewhere in the ZSNES GUI, ala Chris Houlihan in Zelda 3.
