why does my star ocean rom freeze

Post by shibby »

whenever i go to the world map my game randomly freezes :x
i've tried using both the new zsnes and snes9x and it still freezes. even when i load state 10 seconds before it freezes it still freezes.

before playing it on these i've tried fixing up the file with these steps http://www.rpgclassics.com/shrines/snes ... 2patch.txt but when it told me to use the DEXOR i couldn't find it in what he had me download. finaly i found an automatic english patched version of the game and it worked fine but it freezes when i'm lvling on the world map or just walking through it.

plz tell me how to fix this

MAKE ANOTHER TOPIC.

This is a k nown bug. If you looked around that shrine, you would have found a page detailing aall the bugs. This bug is not a fault of the emu, because it was also in the console version.

Quit using save states. They are your enemy.

It's more like you'll be able to recover when it does.
A state save preserves the conditions that lead to the crash. A conventional save doesn't.

So save early, save often, and don't state save, and you'll be fine.

also, rewinding back rather far sometimes avoids a crash

DO NOT ABANDON SAVE STATES! Use them along with the regular in-game saves. Use the rewind feature as well. This way, you can just rewind or load up a recent save state when the game crashes. From here, make a regular in-game save. The game will still crash if you continue on, but just reset, load up the in game save and it will be fine. For a while. Then the process will be repeated. It really kills some of the enjoyment of the game.

Saving states won't affect the game. But relying on savestates will increase your chances of crashing because you'll be keeping the reasons the game crashed in the first place. 8-) If you don't mind rewinding, you can still use them, but you should still use the in-game save as often as possible.
