Maximum number of controllers?

Have 2 controllers of the exact make. One works, the other does not (nothing happens when you press buttons on the Input screen).

I have an additional 4 controllers connected to my PC.

I assume perhaps the max # of controllers ZSNES can detect is 5 ?

Is there a workaround?

4 controller nothing more

Check if all of them work in the gamepad control panel, and have a look at what zsnes outputs when you launch it in a terminal window.
