Zsnes MegaMan X bug

Post by clessoulis »

Ok so I was playing megaman X. I picked the lizard guys stage. It's a forest. Anyways I walk halfway threw the stage and then it goes to the menu I get the lizards special move and the stage is complete. It happened right on the rocky path near the beginning of the stage.

I'm using Zsnes 1.42 linux build.

Just tested again. It seems to only happen when I kill certain types of enemies. The spike ball guys with shields, the rock guys from lizards stage.

Congratulations, you might have found an actual bug. Or not. At least the rom image checks out ok, although it's all up to the CRC32.

Mmm.. I might not understand your problem, but, isn't that what happened when you played MMX rom version 1.0? The one that had copy protection? Try looking for a rom that has 1.1 in it's name.

Ahh yes thanks for telling me that. My rom is 1.0
However it works on every Windows version and it worked one 1.36 fine.
Is there any plans on fixing this bug or are the plans just to tell everyone to get 1.1?

Ah, IIRC, older versions of Zsnes had a hack that allowed you to play version 1.0 with no problems, after a while, it was decided to take away hacks and persue a better emulation, without them.

My advice, stick to version 1.1

Ok thanks for the information.
Is the rom just a bad dump or will future advances in accuracy of emulation actually fix this error?

It has to do with the copy protection on the game.

I thought this 'copy protection' was just ROM mirroring, like in Demon's Crest...

Would that be what cause(d?) the bug where you couldn't defeat the first boss in DC? Or was it completely unrelated?

Bim-bam, you've got it. At least, if I remember stuff correctly.

The Rom hacks

Post by Qb_Master »

What I think the creators could do is have the hacks optional, in another menu option maybe. Just a suggestion :)

The devs wants ZSNES to be as hacks free as possible so I don't think it'll happen.
Try out CCleaner and other free software at Piriform
