I decided to try and record a speedrun of Megaman X. I downloaded the latest ZSNES and got to work, but a couple of bugs are making it pretty frustrating.
1. Now and then I'll play back a movie and it will be slightly out-of-sync with what I recorded. For instance, at one point I needed to fire a charged shot to destroy two robots at once and it has to be timed just right because it needs to hit the first robot while it's at the peak of its jump and hit the second robot when it appears on screen a second later before the fireball goes off-screen. At one point I played back the movie and the shot missed both robots, at which point Megaman got hit and then ran into a wall, so the rest of the movie was ruined.
This only happens rarely, and it sounds like it would be very difficult to fix, so I understand if it's not going to happen for next release.
2. Very very often, in the middle of the battle with Chill Penguin, I'll land a hit and the game will freeze for a second, then go straight to the screen where it gives me the shotgun ice powerup for defeating Chill Penguin. The boss had lots of energy left, and it completely skipped the exploding animation and the victory music. This is not something that happened once as a random glitch. It happened all but one of the times I faced him.
I recorded a movie of it. If it helps, I can send it in.
I ran NSRT and got no errors with the game. It's the U.S. version of Megaman X, revision 1.0. CRC32 is 1033EBA4.
I would very much like to see both of these bugs fixed for next release, but if that's not going to happen, the second is far more important.
Thanks.

#1 sounds like you're using ZSNES 1.42. Try the May 19 WIP version, it should work much better.
For #2, I believe the 1.1 ROM doesn't have that problem. It has to do with some copy protection in 1.0.

or is it the other way around (i think it is)? check your rom with NSRT (see signature), and then find the other rom.Noxious Ninja wrote:For #2, I believe the 1.1 ROM doesn't have that problem. It has to do with some copy protection in 1.0.

Thanks, everyone. Unfortunately the latest WIP crashed every time I tried to run a rom, so I just reinstalled 1.42. So far things seem pretty peachy though. I'm just a tad paranoid about syncing issues.
I did just record an absolutely perfect speedrun of the first level though, and I played it back and everything was fine.

You need to delete the configuration file zguicfgw.dat.Hyena wrote:Thanks, everyone. Unfortunately the latest WIP crashed every time I tried to run a rom, so I just reinstalled 1.42. So far things seem pretty peachy though. I'm just a tad paranoid about syncing issues.
Currently, the file format changes occasionally, and ZSNES can't detect this. The next version of ZSNES will have a new config file system to eliminate the problem.
