Zsnes not working, black screen
It worked perfectly when I had windows 2000. I recently went to XP and it just goes to a black screen. Same thing for virtual boy advance and a few others. I redownloaded zsnes and everything. Someone help please.
Make sure everything is updated, get the latest drivers for your hardware, latest WIP for zsnes and latest direct X (9.0C I believe), and instead of trying to run it full screen try it in a windowed screen.
BTW A little more info would have helped a great deal.

Some people are like slinky's not really good for anything but you can't help smile when one falls down the stairs.

In the same directory(folder) as zsnesw.exe there is zsnesw.cfg. Open it with notepad and find the line VideoModeWin = and change the number to 6. Save and close it then try zsnes again.evilshrew2 wrote:It worked perfectly when I had windows 2000. I recently went to XP and it just goes to a black screen. The original poster's problem is related to bad video chipset drivers. Installing a new operating system caused it to revert to the minimal Microsoft version of the video chipset's drivers. You should be able to download up-to-date drivers from the manufacturer of your video chipset (usually ATI or NVIDIA).
As a work-around, changing the video mode to '6' (640x480x16) by editing the configuration file should work fine.
If you can't figure out how to edit the file:
-Browse to the folder containing zsnesw.exe
-Right-click the file zsnesw.cfg and choose "Open With..."
-Select Notepad from the list.
-Click "OK"
The contents should be visible as text within Notepad.
-Scroll down to the line that says "VideoModeWin="
-Change it to VideoModeWin=6
You're done.

Then you will need better video drivers than what you are using.
This problem usually occurs when someone installs Windows fresh or upgrades to a new version. This causes the video chipset driver to revert to a stripped-down Microsoft version which is very limited. Find out the manufacturer of your video chipset (tell us if you don't know how) and download/install the lastest available driver software.
