Zsnes saving help. ;~;

Post by Himura_Tomoe »

Okay, I've had to start Tales of Phantasia over twice, because I don't know how to save the game... I've heard that you need to use one of the F# buttons to save it directly on zsnes, but exactly which one is it? ._.'

And, uh... sorry for the n00bish question. ><'

And you can, ya know, use the in-game saves. In the game.
Everything I say is a lie.

Do you ever play any console games? Don't you save in those too? This is just a console game you know.

If you're going to use emulator saves, use those actual real ingame saves too (you know, savepoints). That way you don't have to come cry for help when you accidentally press F2 and overwrite something.

Why using in-game save? Especially when savestate is good and quick way to continue your game.

Once reason is that savestates are "cheating". Another is that they can erase your progress if you load an old savestate by accident. That has happened to me at least once. :(

I was absolutely sure I just wrote something up there. When you ask a question about a post make sure your answer isn't already contained within it.

Also, savestates are for cheap people.

Also:
- it detracts from the nostalgic value.
- save points were put in places by developers for a reason.
- can be abused to make a difficult game into a joke.
- not cross-emulator compatible in most cases.
- save states can and do mess up in certain situations.

Guys, you are strange :P
I don't feel guilty because I am using savestates. In fact, I feel guilty not using them.

blackmyst: Yes, but still don't understand your point.

Savestates were always been in most PC games and still exists. Ex. Doom and Morrowind. So, it is by far not for cheap people.
In fact, I think people that have those kind of thoughts are cheap but well... That's just my opinion.

Yes, they are in new PC games but they WERE NOT in SNES games! You're making no sense at all.

Now they are with emulators. It's you that doesn't make sense at all. If I remember, Doom is a pretty old game. And if you want to play on console, then play on console. Here, we are using Zsnes not the console. So be clever.

You're really talking to the wrong person. Have you seen the movies Phil has made?

Anyway, Phil - the real reasons to use ingame saves are:

- the ZST format is subject to change and lack of support from our part: ZSTs can stop being loaded if we think keeping backwards comp is too much of a hassle (which may happen once we stop using crappy aligned data structures to save stuff)

- when the emulation is faulty and will lead to a crash, it is stored into the state, making it dangerous if not fatal to use. Several people already had to restart a game from scratch because they saved a state just before the emu froze, giving them no time to use a real save to escape the situation

'Up to you now'.
