No Netplay changes to the docs right now

Post by Jipcy »

Xamenus, I know you mentioned to me earlier about updating the FAQ/netplay sections of the docs with information from the Netplay forum. I think we should not make any updates to the Netplay section until we know what kind of Netplay will be in the next new release. I think it's probably going to be significantly different from current Netplay, so no reason to update information that's going to become obsolete by next release.

On the other hand though, we might want to make a final "1.42+" release of the docs, with all the relevant updated information about version 1.42... Or something. Really what I mean is, if large parts of ZSNES are going to be different in the next official release, but we've updated those relevant parts with old information after releasing 1.42, we should make that updated information about 1.42 available.

Touché. Didn't think of that.

Sure, you could upload updated 1.42 docs to http://zsnes-docs.sf.net.

BTW, I noticed in another thread that you were thinking about making file releases of the docs at SourceForge. I still think that it's not really necessary--nobody will download them, they are packaged with the ZSNES executable, and they are mirrored online. Of course you're pretty much the project leader now so it's your decision. :)

I'm thinking about removing the "Links and Utilities" section from netplay.htm. Most of the utilities listed in there are, AFAIK, inactive. They also have no official affiliation with ZSNES anyway.

Any comments/objections?

Well, if the links don't work, that's one thing. I personally don't care, but removing it can potentially increase the # of people asking about Netplay frontends (which is what they really are anyways).

Actually, I just realized that we could remove (or rather, hide) all the sections of that page, except for the note at the top about netplay being disabled. Then when netplay is readded, we can put it all back. So would this be a bad idea or no?

I'd say go for it. I've been using

Code: Select all

style="display:hide"
in the various section headers that I want to hide. Most notable, the Netplay section of GUI.htm.
