New GUI feature in the works.

Some pics should be enough to show it off:

Still working on it. So if you have aesthetic preferences, submit them now and I'll see what I can do (also I'll probably remove that 'Player Control' line).

Since you're asking for opinions...

- no space before colons, but after it
- "CDV" renamed to "current device"

The empty space between the "set" and the "set keys" buttons is for 'calibrating' in the DOS port, right? Maybe it could swap places with the "set keys" button.

Btw. the "device" line could be removed as well, and the scrollbox (with the CDV line) moved up by that amount.

A friend of mine hates the Zsnes GUI but I love it.
It looks glossy & smooth, nice work GrinVader. :)

If CDV is set to "NONE", have a HUGE RED MESSAGE to indicate that ZSNES is set to emulate a disconnected controller for that input. Perhaps this menu can double as a screen for selecting accessories like the mouse and Super Scope?

Yes, a better way to indicate that the controller is/isn't plugged in would be nice. Instead of having "None" and "Keyboard/Gamepad", just have a checkbox for plugging in the controller.

That would be nice if that were really the only options.

Options are "None", "Keyboard/Gamepad", "Gravis Gamepad Pro", "Sidewinder", etc...

But is it necessary to have a list of options? Is it not possible to just configure any pad on the go?

No it isn't. Specific routines need to be enabled for each one specially, and yes I've tested it with several pads. ZSNES supported more pads than any other program I've seen, except that Nesticle had pure GRiP support (yay standard GRiP and Xterminator pads).

Also, nice work guys. :)

EDIT: Apparently KingHanco posted about his ZSNES stuff anyway, and ignored my warning, and the thread was split, hence, this edit.

It would be nice to have a turbo start key.. but that's not an asthetic suggestion..

Looks clean for the most part.

Ok... this isn't what I expected.

I meant 'aesthetics about the NEW TAB FEATURE'.
I used the Input box as a quick test since the asm for that one is easier to link (since I hardcoded everything without macro), but I could've used the Video box for that first result.

GUI tweaks for the input window aren't the point here... I want to know if you like the tab display as it is or if I have to modify more of the window to make it look decent - as you probably noticed if you ever saw a real tabbed window, it's not a perfect fit yet.

Let's try this again. =)
There's no real hurry, but by monday I'd like all the critical feedback in.

P.S.: users who don't know half the current GUI features are not welcome. Only proper feedback, please. I could care less about "hay guyz lookit my stuff" pollution.

I really don't care how it looks as long as there are some kind of tabs. :o

I think the tabbed layout is much better than the current setup.

Well, it's a fullblown improvement from the abomination that is 5 input menu options.

I think creaothceann's ideas are right on for the most part.

What really needs to be changed are the "Set" button (non-intuitive) and the "Set Keys" button.

"Set Keys" should be relabeled to "Configure Important Keys" or something along those lines since that is its function.

"Set" should be relabeled to "Select Device" or "Set Device" or something along those lines... "Select Highlighted Device" (Not to get too OT, the "Set" button in the Video Options should be changed to "Apply Highlighted Video Mode"... something along those lines.

Snow effect and Water effect B sucks to me. I like the Water effect A and Burning effect better. :D

Ok, it still doesn't work for everyone. Let's get more explicit.

Deathlike2: I don't give a rat's ass about the input menu !!

Make the Tabs more obivious...

Better yet, make them buttons - as you can't really make the tabs look like how other GUI's have done it.

Until the first post on the second page, I wasn't aware that they were tabs to begin with.

I like what I see on Grin's posted images. Have nothing more to say abt it.
I'm looking forward to try out the new GUI...

Edit: @Clements (below post), I agree.

Well, yes I can, with a lot of effort.

Code-wise they are already buttons. I would like to know how to make them "more obvious", since that's what you want. Tabs are the same colour as the window they link to, so tab colour isn't an option. Bigger ? Different text colour ?

Highlighted tab: yellow text (as it is now). Other tabs: white text.
Someone having a better idea?
