Well consider where the name came from.

It was invented by Ian Murdock whose wife's name is Debra or Deb for short.

Debra - Ian. Short e for me. And I've never even used Debian.

Also for the longest time I pronounced TAITO like potato, as in PO-TAY-TOE. Apparently it is TIE-TOE. argh.

Dee-bee-in. I also accent the first syllable.

I've never used it and I'm not familiar with the OS at all. So, I just pronounce it wrong. It's what sounds right in my head.

Technology dictionaries or references or articles really should have pronunciation guides accompanying the jargon words.

Japanese == syllabic language. Once you know that, 'TA I TO' naturally comes out as 'tie-to'.

Precisely! As for Debian, I pronounce it using those very same
syllables (デービアン).

Yes, I studied Japanese for 3 years. It just never 'clicked'.
