Howto... make your own ROMs with your own cartridges?

Post by thekryz »

Hi there!
I have been searching on the web for a while. I am interested in making my original Cartridges to ROMs. I am from Germany where we have a fair use right, so I think this should be legal. If you don't think so, tell me.
Anyways I was really wondering if there is a way to make my Games to Roms by a modification of my SNES. Or do you need special hardware for this? Where can you get this?

Thanks,

Chris

You need a dumper. Search Ebay. Or wait until someone that can recommend some models.

Dumping a ROM from a cartridge is legal pretty much anywhere. I've heard a dumper called Super UFO which seemed to get good ratings. I was actually going to buy one of those but they had sold out at the time. Search ebay and google to find some info on it.

I have a small related question. How can I put a ROM file from a computer back to a back-up unit using floppy disks?
Try out CCleaner and other free software at Piriform

you use the computer's 3.5" floppy drive to write a rom file onto a disk.

you insert said disk into backup unit, and using the on screen menu and snes controller, copy file to backup unit memory.

if you want to play said rom on backup unit, make sure it doesn't require add on chips sfx1, sfx2, sa-1, s-dd1, spc-7110, c4, gameboy, and that it is in the correct format for your backup unit.

anybody want a backup unit? I have a couple 32MB gamedoctors sitting around. I'll ship them off for $40 without a power supply (sega genesis works fine.)

sidenote: I believe this is the site he's looking for.

wow this shit have motivated me to fuck with the old NP flash cart. I have faith that I can read and write the flash chips (up to 32mbit) by bypassing the big chip in the way. since there's solder pads for an extra 16mbit chip, I will solder to that rather than the chips themselves. I knew these crummy shift registers without latches would come in handy some day!

Where do you get your parts anyway? Ebay? I may have to order some batteries considering my cartridges are ancient.

CR2032 batteries from radio shack. I have yet to find a decent battery holder. they're all pretty thick, and make the cartridge buldge ever so slightly. a battery holder 5mm tall or thinner would be perfect.
