iTunes... I hate you...

Post by ReRuss »

I used to just tolerate iTunes , now I hate it 100% , I added 2 albums last night (about 20 songs) and plugged in my iPod so it could upload those songs and I could leave... it deleted every song off the iPod , THEN it wanted to upload every song again , but it froze up my computer twice

Now I use the ipod plugin for WinAMP , it shows all my playlists from the ipod (no songs in any list of course) , all I did was drag n drop to fill some playlists I was wantin to add , and qith no hassle and good speed , it uploaded and I was able to get out the door with the 2 albums I wanted to listen to for my drive

iTunes is long gone from my PC...

dude you missed my itunes rant a while ago!? my buddy had an 80gig ipod video, I tried all the software that's out there. all you need is winamp and ml_ipod plugin.

or if you have an ipod video 5.0 or any other lesser ipod, try the rockbox os replacement, that looked even cooler but doesn't work on 80 giggers.

I coulda sworn I had some other itune plugin for ipod long ago but didnt have WinAMP library , so I could never figure it out , but I heard about ml_ipod on that rant thread

I tried rockbox , and I didn't like it much , it was good tho , worked great with my dvd player (which has a USB input)

I don't like that anapod. I tried it, and for videos it specifies movies as 'no title" and "no name" or some crap like that, and puts them in the music videos folder. also it doesn't set a time for videos, so you can't scroll through.

ml_ipod on the other hand (it's different from the default ipod plugin that comes with winamp) puts movies in the movies folder, and gives it names and times and shit. it's perfect.

ml_ipod is actually giving me a ton of shit now with Winamp 5.3 on this computer. I have an older version of Winamp 5 at home with ml_ipod and it works great.

The further you get from the last version that the nullsoft team actually worked on, the more AOL gheyness you achieve.

wow that's good to know. I used winamp 2.95 or whatever for the longest time, but got 5.21 cause it had awesomeness skins cause I figured it was time to move on to a new interface after like seven years. nope, I still use the good old skin :)

So was it the partitions or just the OS? Maybe he could've saved the data.

or the cd was protected. that's been known to lock up pc's. you actually have to force eject the disc to get it back. if you have something like an iMac or mac mini, you had to send it in to apple so they could extract it. they might have fixed that issue by now by adding a force eject.

it was just the OS. but i don't see how he could saved the data, seeing as how file transfer is near impossible w/o windows. i guess i could have used cmd, but that shit is way too big of a hassle.

You can remove every bit of that shit :)
Go to the winamp plugin directory and play around removing files titled ml_XXX. My media library now shows local media, rip and burn, and devices - that's it.
Also, I got ml_ipod working, when I was fucking around with those ml files I moved one required for usb devices - oops. Put it back and everything is working great.

but how do I open the compruter case? it says dell on it, and there's no front panel that swings open to access the hard disks. maybe I need a tri-wing screw driver.

So your laziness takes importance over the recovery of possible important (even crucial!) information for the user gathered in his computer?

You can always buy a samll toolkit for a reasonable price. That's what I did, and it has helped me to rescue data from many hard disks now.
