From what I tried, they changed a lot of the interface. I think they even decreased the loading speed even more.

Please don't use such trash. Use Foxit and forget about bloated software.

I discovered Foxit shortly after upgrading to Adobe Reader 8. Every new version (of Reader) seems to have lower performance. Reader 8 especially seems "unresponsive" (clicking around in the menus).

The Foxit software though, it very much appears to be some modified version of official Adobe software.

I can already tell you right now that 90+% of the PDFs out there will not uses the fancy junk they bloated their software with. At some point, Adobe's gotta figure out their software is next to total junk.

I think the Foxit PDF software attempts to keep the familiarity of Adobe's software intentionally.. which helps a lot. Seriously, they haven't thought about KISS.

Were you trying to load the PDF in a browser? That tends to fail quite a bit with huge PDF files.

While I don't dispute Adobe Reader is pretty crappy, I can say this:

Version 6.0 was a steaming pile of crap. The worst in the history.
Version 7.0 was actually MUCH better. I was impressed they seemed to make a serious effort for improvement, although still crap in the end.

If Version 8 is better than 7, they are going in the right direction at least.

I suppose feature bloat is their biggest problem at the moment. The download size is unbelievable.

One simple idea is make some sort of basic function lite reader. I mean I think that's what the software really was in the beginning like Adobe Acrobat Reader 3.0. ;)

I hate that Foxit reader doesn't support forms within pdfs, which are the majority at my workplace.

I just use Adobe Reader and delete all the startup stuff. Version 8 has a 2D acceleration option in the preferences which makes the documents scroll faster/smoother. Sometimes I have to read over 25 pdfs a day so I need a compatible PDF reader installed.
