Mplayer... why won't you work?

Post by Vigorousjammer »

ok, so I downloaded Mplayer from this link: http://oss.netfarm.it/mplayer/gui/mplay ... n-21682.7z

then I went ahead and tried opening it, and it said I needed an dll file, pthreadGC2.dll

I went ahead and searched for it on google and downloaded that...

now whenever I try to open up mplayer, it just shows a dos screen for a second and then disappears... anybody know what i'm doing wrong?

mplayer is a Win32 commandline application. It has no GUI.

Just download MPlayer from the official site, http://www.mplayerhq.hu/

There should be a GUI version there in the downloads section.

You want to use mencoder from http://oss.netfarm.it/mplayer-win32.php

There are optimized versions there. The GUI one is wonky as of this post though (it has been wonky for a while). You want to learn the command line (it is not hard for the purpose of playing back the video).

mplayer play_my_movie.avi

Blame development over there as random as it gets. Use the command-line version... it's not hard... really.

Lets put it this way, if an app can't load something via the command line, you can't associate it.

i got pthreadgc2.dll from http://sourceware.mirrors.tds.net/pub/s ... atest/lib/

and also was wandering about why the videos where jerky and as i kept thinking about it i realized i also had to set refresh rate to 60hz for it... is there a command line option for it that i can use to set the refresh rate to 60hz each time i play a movie with mplayer like the one found in zsnes?

No need to use -fs, just hit f to toggle.
