Picture Editing Program or something similar?

Post by Joe Camacho »

Guys, I need a program that can group .bmp files or other picture files and convert them into .jpeg or .jpg, without having to change them one by one.

Assuming that youre not wanting all stitched together in one large file, ImageMagick has a batch convert ability if you use batch files. I pulled this example from their forums:

FOR /F "delims=." %%k IN ('dir /b .\*.tif') DO (
"c:\program files\ImageMagick-5.5.7-Q8\convert" -resize 600x800 %%k.tif %%k.jpg
rem del %%k.tif
)

Irfanview has a handy batch converter.

Irfanview's JPEG converter kind of sucks. It's pretty poor quality compared to the one in ACDSee and Photoshop (even at 100% with chroma subsampling off), but I don't really know of any free alternatives to irfanview.

But for most purposes, it's probably fine.
