What Games Have Kept You Guys Busy?

Post by Cyrus »

I'm bored as shit right now and I don't feel like playing any of the current games I have.

I'm looking for some plain game which requires no brain power (or at least no complex problem solving) whatsoever like an MMO or a Fighting game or something along the lines of that.

Have there been any games recently which have caught your attention or seem worth a shot?

I've heard of the Ys series, is it for PC or is it scattered over consoles and just happens to have PC versions?

i think it just happens to have pc versions. although i'm not sure. this is my first one of these games.

it's great. japanese rpg style, with simple action combat. boss battles are just patter memorizations. haven't run into any puzzles yet, but i'm not really that far.

whattheboat has details

whicker: franpa is grammatically correct, and he still gets ripped on?
sweener2001: Grammatically correct this one time? sure. every other time? no. does that give him a right? not really.

Eternal Darkness, although the WWI scenario is bullshit, so I placed it on the shelf for some Megaman X Command Mission, not the most brilliant of RPGs, but fun.

In the GBA front, Super Robot Taisen: Original Generation and Original Generation 2 have kept me busy for months.

I didn't even know this was available yet. How would you rate it on a PC? (and would you let me know your compy specs as well?)

I would imagine FF12 and RE4 would require a lot more thinking than a fighting game, I was looking for something that would be plain and simple, to relax.

diablo ii is fairly mindless, if you ever wanted to jump back into that. morrowind is as mindless as you want it to be, since you can do whatever you please.

maybe some casual games? there are some really good ones. i rather enjoy the mystery case files series. it's basically i spy, except you solve mysteries. pretty fun stuff.

I used to play Diablo 2 endlessly with a bunch of my friends but we all ended up quitting the game because it became boring after it got horribly corrupted with hacked items. I've never heard of the other one though.

does RE4 PC have the extras in the PS2 version, also it would be nice if they used the gamecube models as they are better. Any info?

RE4 PC is the same as RE4 PS2 in every way. Crappier graphics, FMVs for the cutscenes, and the extras.

BOO! who was the genius who thought of that! Honestly they could have done SO MUCH better by porting the GC version and adding the few extra features in.

They suck!

don't forget the 1940 games especially 19xx

also

aero fighters/sonic wings
viper phase
raiden
strikers 1945

there are TONS of great addictive arcade games, but you can find em yourself on MAWS, it's really helpful

Some of those are... quite unusual.

I've actually never tried MAME, I'll have to give it a shot sometime. But I was wondering what generation of games does it emulate up to?

Depends on whatever info the devs can get on the hardware. I suppose it's the custom GPUs that have virtually zero documentation (why would they?) that's holding back alot of games from being emulated. NFL Blitz is a good example of a game that's correctly emulated but is several years newer than Daytona USA which won't even get past the initial test screen. If you see a game released past 2000, chances are it's just a 2D game on ageing hardware i.e. NeoGeo.

Even then, the more recent 3D games (1995~+) won't run on anything on the market today. What was it...'10Ghz' for NFL Blitz? :?

yeah there are select commercial releases up to the year 2003, going all the way back to the first arcade games.

of course there are gaps on arcade boards still not emulated but they are making great strides.

it's not just the emulator either, I'm sure there are many recent games, such as music games, that could run on MAME but haven't been dumped yet. E.G. the latest beatmania or drum master.

Still, there are hundreds of gems already available to play
