Looking for a fun FPS with lots of multiplayer mod games

Ya, i've been neglecting to buy Half-Life 2 for a while. Primarly i play Team Fortress Classic alot and I am finally considering to buy Half-Life 2 Ep1 and 2 (when it's out). I recently beat Halo: CE for the PC and only one mod, the zelda online mod (alpha was fun before it got a C&D).

Besides Half-Life series, are there any other great FPS out there with lots of fun mods like Half-Life.

I was looking to buy quake 4, but i was reading many angry reviews of the game on game faqs and newegg.

FEAR looks appealing to me as well, but it looks as if it has the story mode for offline enjoyment and not as many multiplayer mods.

suggestions?

Edit: looking for a PC FPS not console, as i do not like using a contoller for it.

UT2004.

Its fun and modded to hell and back. (It comes with a map editor on the DVD).

Not sure if you can use the mods on it, but FEAR offers their multiplayer part of the game for free. Google FEAR Combat.
