Which one do you recommend? I've used AVG in the past, but have been told that AntiVir is a good choice, too. Any others?

I wouldn't recommend Avast!. It's a resource hog.

Most two- and four-year colleges provide antivirus software. If you're in school, look around on their computing pages and see if you can get one.

The only real reason to use the keygen is to avoid contacting AVG on their website that you are using their software. Seriously, it's free, and they provide the key for you anyways.. you would have to be somewhat paranoid to get a keygen just for this.

Free: Avira Antivir
Paid: Nod32.
Avira is light, but Nod32 is even lighter and updates quite frequently.
I can't even notice it running in a Pentium 200MMX. Seriously.

Personally I prefer AVG and quite satisfied with it. Antivir isn't bad but the spammy advertising windows it opens on each update has been irritating.
I also think AVG's scan is faster and less resource-demanding

still, having a hackable version that they want people to pay for isn't that smart =\

I use AVG free but have not had a virus in quite a while. You don't actually need a scanner if you know what you're looking for though.

Quoted for emphasis and truth. Best antivirus software hands down.
All you have to do is pick which one you'll be using.

You can't find anything better than AntiVir and NOD32
As a special bonus, the latest version of AntiVir now includes a very good rootkit scanning engine.

Well, so far I have found AntiVir to be a little obtrusive and annoying. Either it's a very good scanner, or it detects more false positives than AVG.

Strange. I haven't encountered any false positives with AntiVir.
