Prophet's Guile takes place during Chrono Trigger and shows you a part of the plot that we already know happened, but never got to see. Stop bitching, it's quite good.

It shows a quote from Radical Dreamers too, but you can just ignore that if you will.

no.

have you been reading any of this? it's Magus' time in zeal as the prophet, end of story.

Until I see it finished, fanfic shall remain fanfics, and no more. When a product is finished, it is STILL nothing more than an animated fanfic, from people without the guts to write an original storyline.

A lot of sensible people on this forum really don't seem to like anything coming out of the Chrono Compendium community... I don't really have anything to say about that, but it's just something I've been seeing in people's posts towards things like this and the fan translation. If you don't care for this stuff, why post at all? Youre just going to get the fanboys upset for no constructive reason. Just seems like a waste of time, is all... though I guess I'm biased because these things interest me.

No one is forcing you to take part in these things, is the point I guess I'm trying to make.

So it's an official SquareEnix production?

*sigh*

Yes, it is a fanfiction, albeit in game form. We get it. Just don't play it.

have YOU been reading this? it's not all that clear.

and it's just a fanfic. fanfics == lame

always

like how every star trek fanfic has the author getting with uhuru
like how every star wars fanfic has the author getting with leia

the screenshots say they're trying too hard, anyway. it doesn't sound like chrono trigger

yes I have, I bloody wrote it! duh

it's a hack, deal with it, if you don't like unofficial content why would you even bother playing hacks? It's assumed when a new "hack" is announced that it isn't official content, if you're not interested there's no reason to bitch about it. That is other than for the sake of bitching.

I was pointing out that it's a fanfic is all.

Then you started tapdancing around the issue.

my humble appologies, I had no intention of dancing around the issue (in fact I was trying to be pretty straight forward), or somehow end up on the defensive, seriously, what a mess.

basically this is how it went down on my side, I said it was short and text heavy, you said that (from my perspective) that it was just a glorified text adventure fanfic, I tried to clearify that it did have gameplay and wasn't all text,

you started talking about Crimson Echoes for some reason, then Rydian came in and all hell started to break loose as nobody knew what damn game we were talking about. The rest of the time I spent just trying to get back on the same page. Again, no sidestepping or "dancing" was intended. The general hate does seem kind of odd though for something based on a game that most people like.

honestly, I blame it on a stint of bad communication on my part. Anywho, I suppose if it isn't your thing then it isn't, it's just a demo of sorts for pete's sake.

*reads new posts*

Oh for fuck's sake...

1. It shows the implied backstory of Magus. Yay!
2. The creators obviously know the universe and have tried to not introduce any logical errors.
3. It's not official.
4. It's still good.

"for some reason" was because you mentioned it

my hate is based on the fact that i have never seen a single good fanfic. ever.

and the screens i saw looked way too wordy and emo to actually fit in the chrono universe.

It's Magus, duh.

And yes, there are good fanfics out there. :/

Now what I don't get is people judging a damn good hack without having played it...

My side:
I peeked in expecting something about a new official Chrono game for some reason(Hey, they brought back Parasite Eve 3... sort of. DAMN YOU SQUEENIX! DAMN YOU AND YOUR CELL PHONE GAMES!).

Saw a ROM hack that seemed to have been presented as actual official CT story.

Combine disappointment over no new game, years of resentment over the never-really-announced Chrono Break and Parasite Eve: Rebirth not-really-cancellations, the general poor reputation of fan fiction, and ...
I pointed out that if it wasn't a video game, people'd just be complaining about fanfics.

It was all downhill from there with confusion all around.

Didn't mean to imply it was a text adventure(the screenshots DO make it quite clear it isn't). Just that.... well, it's a fanfic with gameplay.

As creaothceann points out, that's not necessarily a bad thing. Some fans take stuff seriously, and come out with pretty good sequels.
Hell, I've seen official sequels that can't even keep the established backstory straight, much less fill in the gaps.

I think Capcom's the biggest offender here. Megaman may've never had MUCH continuity, but it was clear that X was a sequel to the original, with a big transitional chunk of history missing.
They were JUST STARTING to deal with that when they said "To hell with this," killed off the original series entirely, and started shooting existing Megaman X continuity in the face.
...
I actually tried my hand at creating a transition fanfic for that one. Never wrote anything down, much less published it. Was an interesting diversion, though. Still is, when an idea bounces into my head. For some reason, it's one of the more interesting "holes" to me.

oh.... that sucks for you, sorry man, I seriously thought you were being an asshole about the whole "but it's not a squeenix game" but I guess the title was misleading.

whatever, I guess it's all straightened out now. Thanks for not being a jerk.

So you're judging a book by it's cover?

i'm judging a fanfic on past experiences. it's like going to watch successive uwe boll movies. you don't, because you know what to expect.

true if it's all by the same person, but your perspective is more like "if I watch any low budgit films the ALL will suck NO MATTER WHAT!!!"

perhaps if you'd played their work before you'd be taken a little more seriously.

my comparison wasn't exact, sure, but you'd have to choose to ignore the point i was making to not get it.

The comparison didn't matter, you were still judging a book by the cover.
