Yoshi's Island; program crash

Post by Rick Bull »

Hi, I keep experiencing a program crash on the level "6-4: Tap-Tap The Red Nose's Fort" of Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. It happens when I hit the blob (is that Tap-Tap? ) for the last time, and he disolves (I assume the key should then appear).

I have an idea it may have something to do with Windows XP's SP2, as I don't think this problem happened before (when I previously completed the game). I've tried switching graphics mode, turning off sound, and disabling some graphics layers, all to no avail.

Files you may need: My system config:
  • Intel P4 2.4GHz
  • 768 MB RAM
  • nVidia GeForce FX5600 (256 MB)
ZSNES config:
  • ZSNESW 1.36
  • 512*448 R win
If you need any other info, let me know. Also, one other thing, which I'm sure you're already aware of, is that in this game, there are graphics problems with certain objects. The best way for me to show it, is with an image of the problem.

Try the latest WIP version of zSNES and see if that fixes it.

I did say; it's 1.36 (ZSNESW). Here's the ROM info:

Code: Select all

---------------------Internal ROM Info----------------------
       File: Super Mario World 2 Yoshi's Island.smc
Name: Vimm's Lair: vimm.net Company: Nintendo
     Header: Exists (type?) Bank: LoROM
Interleaved: No SRAM: 256 Kb
Type: Super FX2 + Batt ROM: 16 Mb
    Country: USA Video: NTSC
ROM Speed: 200ns (SlowROM) Version: 1.1
   Checksum: Bad 0x60D4 != 0x5E32    CRC32: CA781C1D
--------------------------Database--------------------------
ROM wasn't found in the database (possible bad dump).
You can try using -fix or -findover to see if the
file has been slightly altered and rectifiable.
Also I tried restoring the smc file from an old back-up, and getting NSRT to try fixing the ROM, but the problem was still the same. I also tried using the latest WIP of ZSNES; it didn't crash, but the graphics became garbled, and unusable.

Edit: whoops, looks like we were both posting/editing at the same time :P

You might want to get the NTSC rom image instead of PAL, but whatever.

I've never had this crash in the WIP version, but then again, I might be mistaken about the level in question.
whicker: franpa is grammatically correct, and he still gets ripped on?
sweener2001: Grammatically correct this one time? sure. every other time? no. does that give him a right? not really.

Well, using WIP and the new ROM, with the old savestate I get a blank screen after I unpause; but that's probably due to an incompatibility between the versions of the game, right? Just that I can't be bothered re-playing all of the 6 worlds, just to get to that point. I think I'll just have to live with the bug. Thanks anyway.

You can get a SRM file from Zophar's Domain, of course with all levels accessible.

    1.36 is old as heck.

If the zsnes team had kept releasing new versions instead of keeping them as WIP, we would be at 1.60 or something.
