"Invalid Code" error when putting in any cheat
No matter what I do or what game I try, ZSNES is rejecting any and every cheat code I have put in. It has worked in the past but isn't now in any way. I would greatly appreciate any help you guys can offer.
What I have done:
*) I have checked the documentation. The recommendations there had no effect.
*) I have tried removing the tmpchtsr.____ file. Neither it nor any *.cht files were in the directory or any of the rom folders.
*) I have repeatedly made sure that I am putting the code in correctly.
*) I have made sure that I am using the proper code set for the rom.
*) I have included the hyphen (-) when using Game Genie titles.
*) I have made certain that I have not mistaken zeroes for O's.
*) I have checked for other threads on this forum as well as the internet in general for information on this problem. Those that I have found did not have solutions that worked for me or did not match my problem.
*) I have tried re-downloading the program to no effect.
*) I have tried resetting both the program and my system to no effect.
*) I have tried multiple alternate codes to make sure I wasn't just getting a bad code.
What I have not done:
*) I have not changed my hardware in any way since ZSNES's cheat system last worked properly.
*) I have not come here to listen to trouble-makers coming in and cracking wise. I've seen a disturbing trend where people come here for answers and all they get is bullying from people not even trying to help. If that's all you're going to do, save it, I'm not interested.
Some of the codes I have tried: (Please refrain from trying them in yours, saying they work and expecting that to be that. Certainly, do so and see if they are, indeed, faulty, but if they do work, that means that the problem is something else, not that that somehow suddenly holds a revelation.)

Welp, I compared your codes to the ones mightymo77 has been compiling for bsnes. Here's his:Ninmast wrote: Some of the codes I have tried: (Please refrain from trying them in yours, saying they work and expecting that to be that. Re: "Invalid Code" error when putting in any cheat
Thank you for the helpful reply. At least we've found out that at least some of my codes really are bad. Unfortunately, my program rejected mightymo77's codes as well, blocking them from even being put in with an "Invalid Code" error.

Re: "Invalid Code" error when putting in any cheat
I couldn't tell you what's wrong with the codes, since the characters other than the - are technically hex.
However, the only thing I'm assured of is that wherever you got the codes tend to not verify the version of the game and/or simply verify codes that they are given.
It's not your fault necessarily, but poor understanding and/or poor documentation of found codes. That is usually 95%+ of all cheat code problems when it involves Game Genie codes.

Re: "Invalid Code" error when putting in any cheat
Well, I've now tried about four "Infinite Health" codes, one being mightymo77's that dfreer provided. Surely something would have worked if the problem was only with the codes, right? And if it were with the codes, wouldn't they go through anyway and then just not do what they're supposed to? These aren't even going through. They're getting rejected as "Invalid" the moment I hit ADD.
Re: "Invalid Code" error when putting in any cheat
You are aware the code consists of only C2DB-5F62 ? Also check the copy of your GAME (rom) is of the correct region and revision.
Core i7 920 @ 2.66GHZ | ASUS P6T Motherboard | 8GB DDR3 1600 RAM | Gigabyte Geforce 760 4GB | Windows 10 Pro x64
Re: "Invalid Code" error when putting in any cheat
I just tried adding every single one of those codes to mine, no idea if half of them work since I didn't care enough to play the game to a part where I had those items, but they all added just fine. Are you using zsnes 1.51? What does your rominfo.txt say about your rom? I'm sure more intelligent people than me will want to know if you scanned your ROM with NSRT but I don't care. Here's mine:
Beyond that, I have no idea and have to assume user error, in which case I'm sure the epic zboard trolling will commence.

Re: "Invalid Code" error when putting in any cheat
Here's two guesses...
1) The files that you said you did check for... you need to search the entire hard drive for them. They are probably in the least likely of places because you have yet to mention what OS you use.
2) I'm trying to think of keyboard layout makes any difference... I don't think it would, but that little bit of info would be nice to know if you are not using the default US layout.

check write permissions in the zsnes directory.Ninmast wrote:It has worked in the past but isn't now in any way.
Why yes, my shift key *IS* broken.
Re: "Invalid Code" error when putting in any cheat
franpa - Yes, I am aware of that. As I said, I have repeatedly made sure that I am putting the codes in correctly.
dfreer - Yes, I am using ZSNES 1.51. Here's mine.
Deathlike2 - I checked the entire hard drive for them. They are nowhere. My operating system is Windows XP SP 3 and I am using the default US keyboard layout.
odditude - I have confirmed that write permissions are all clear. None of the files in the directory have the read-only attribute.

Re: "Invalid Code" error when putting in any cheat
There ya go.
the code, which is C2DB-5F62, should go in the CODE box, and INF HEALTH should go in the DESCRIPTION box.
Can we get a facepalm up in here?
