Older versions of ZSNES for playing ZMV files?

Post by frankbrodie »

Hiya :)

I'm interested in watching some of those large movie files that are available at Zophars.
But they definitely go out of synch quickly with the latest ZSNES WIP.

So does anyone have any links to (much) older versions of ZSNES?
I keep a certain amount of backups myself. But not as far back as some of these were recorded on.

One that I've noticed mentioned is ZSNES v0.989c
Which was used for movies of Final Fantasy 3 and Chrono Trigger and various other total playthroughs.
So I'm particularly interested in that one.

I've no problem with using these older versions of ZSNES to try and get the movies to play right. If only I could find them.

BTW, the ZSNES WIPs should be able to handle v0.989c movies just fine (or if not, wait for v1.43).

Yeah, they open fine.

But the Final Fantasy 3 ZMV that I looked at (all 240+ Mb of it!) goes out of synch by the end of the first battle of the game.

And yet the 14 minute beating of Super Mario World ZMV stays in synch all the way through.

Cheers anyway :D

Thanks again :)

That 989c version plays the FF3 movie absolutely great.
Weird to see just how far ZSNES has progressed over the years too, looking at such an old version.

It is the latest WIP (11 April?) that I'm currently using.
As I said, they open fine, but the FF3 one goes out of synch very quickly.
Not tried the Chrono Trigger movie for more than a minute, so I don't know if that's the same. (I would suppose it is)

So will v1.43 be able to play these old ZMV's accurately?
That would be excellent :)
If so, I would probably download loads more movies.
Because it's great just sitting there watching someone else play the games.
And thinking how you would do it differently

Probably not. The core changes between 0.989 and now won't be reverted.
As accuracy is enhanced, most movies made with older versions of zsnes will go off-sync.

Is there a way to "re-encode" them with the newer zsnes to avoid de-syncs?

Sure.

You have the video playing on one machine, and you watch it and do what the video does, or attempt to anyway.
