Hacks database/collection site?

Post by Snark »

Specifically Super Mario World hacks.

Is there a website that repertories most of the hacks for it? I know there is romhacking.net but they only have an handful of them.

edit: I don't think this qualify as a rom request as hacks themselves are just an .ips file

http://donut.parodius.com/, but the site hasn't been updated in quite some time.

EDIT: Actually, I don't see any SMW hacks on there. Hmm.

well it does have everything GOOD, acmlm used to have a good deal in it's SMW forum but it's been a little buggered for awhile. if you go to the LINKS section of Romhacking.net, you may just find what you were looking for. alternatively there is always the dying old Zophar Domain.

If he can't find something in there I doubt he can find it on another website.

actually that's not entirely true, they don't carry any garbage, and in fact there are regular times where we say, "wait a minute, why isn't such and such hack on here?" and they say "because no one submitted it" never-the-less it's still the best quality source.

besides that, use google my friend, you can find all the crap SMW hacks to you want, trust me there are hundreds, the handful of good ones though can be found at romhacking.

http://www.smwcentral.net/ has patches that introduce new features to SMW, if that is what you are looking for.

If all else fails, remember that GoodSNES catalogs all kinds of hacks. As for how to get them, that is up to you.

Hmmm, nice, I'll have to look at some of the hacks for good measure. Been beating SD3 to a pulp, so I gotta find something worthy of my attention.

smwcentral.net is a very good Mario World hacking site, thanks.

Of course, there's a lot of absolutely craptastic hacks, but I don't think romhacking.net have all the good ones either. They only have like a dozen SMW hacks anyway and I'm pretty sure there are more good ones out there. Smwcentral as nearly fifty "featured" (I assume reviewed and judged good) hacks. (edit: then again, I haven't tried any so I can't comment)

Off-topic, ...If you're not easily disturbed see the "hack review" article at I-mockery*. Not talking about poor level design, but some of rom hacks out there...are made... clearly by complete degenerates.

*edit: better yet: don't.

Well I tried a hack "Mario X World: Bowser's Strike Back" (smwcentral) and...suprise suprise! It crashes on the real Snes when you die! :gasp!:

It's worth noting it works on Zsnes (Accuracy-wise, technically it shouldn't work I guess) I've tried with bsnes and crashes at the same spot.

Should I assume most, if not all, hacks will have problems on real hardware?

yes I forgot about SMW Central, as I usually got there via acmlm. and they do have some good stuff Romhacking doesn't, but if you find something good, submit it to Romhacking so other people don't have to go digging like you did.

What a concept! Amazing. Somebody who actually knows how to use ROMhacking.net and what it's all about. You get a virtually blur ribbon. ;)

People love to talk about the few things RHDN doesn't have, yet they insist on keeping it that way rather than fixing the problem. It defies logic

Snark:

No I wouldn't assume most or all hacks have problems on the real hardware. Quite a few people take the time to test on copiers or have someone else test for them. You'll find plenty that probably won't work, but don't let that be the assumed norm.
