Seiken Densetsu 3 3-player Support

Post by parlance »

I've hacked the rom to finally support 3 human players simultaneously which I'm sure should please a few people who have tried it and noticed that it doesn't support 3 players natively for some reason.

Enjoy!

http://members.shaw.ca/cfriesen5/som3_3_player_ips.rar

PS. You should be able to apply this patch to either version (translated or non-translated) of the ROM, but I've only tested it on the translated version.

Further details are in the readme.

YOU WILL STILL NEED TO PLAY TWO PLAYERS IN ONE COMPUTER AND THE THIRD PLAYER IN ANOTHER PC, OR THE THREE OF YOU IN ONE COMPUTER.

THIS HAS PATCH HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH NETPLAY.

Before anyone asks.

Someone has to answer so I will jump in:

NO F****N WAY YOU CAN DO THIS NOW. Perhaps in a distant future when someone crazy adds support to ZSNES to it.

This should be submitted to Romhacking.net if it hasn't been already. More publicity that way. ;)

I have already suggested it on the Snes9x boards, and it is already there now.

yeah, I submitted it there a few days ago and it seems to be up. I'm just posting it here and on a few other popular boards to try to get the word out a bit. I don't want anyone else to have to endure the frustration that my friends and I did when we found out the game doesn't actually support 3 players normally.

So it has to do with the emulator and not the actual rom? I don't kinda get it. If everybody had the IPS, wouldn't it be fine, as you can play 2 player in netplay normally? Just curious here.

Obviously you are not understanding the context. ZSNES cannot do netplay with more than 2 computers. This doesn't mean there cannot be 3 or more players w/netplay, it just means more than one person must share the same computer.

Ah, ok, I was missing that one. Are there any plans of implementing something like that? That might require one computer as "server", I suppose.

At some point, sure. However, that isn't the priority... the rewrite should help netplay out anyways.

I can't wait to get friends who actually like RPGs to play with on my computer, so I can try it out with some of my Internet friends who do. :D!

Hi,
I've been trying to use the patch I downloaded from:
http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/snes/pa ... er_ips.rar
(the link posted above seems to be broken)

I then put the .ips file in the same directory as the .smc rom and also in ~/.zsnes/ but when I open the .smc file in Zsnes and open state so I can test, nothing seems to have changed.

I've enabled auto patching in Zsnes and have been pressing the start button for player 2 and 3.

Can anyone offer any help? Thanks!

1) The link works.
2) If don't know if IPS is not working, make sure to check the message that appears when you load a game. Check for IPS in the message. If the message does not include IPS in it, make sure you rename the IPS file appropriately. SD3.smc should have an IPS file named SD3.ips.

Ok, thanks, but could you tell me what kind of message I'm looking for when the rom loads? Will it be part of the standard one that appears at the bottom when a rom is loaded with the checksum etc?

Thanks.

Take a look at the pic. You will see IPS in the same location when the IPS is loaded successfully.

As I said earlier, if it is patched, you will get the IPS message. Otherwise you have failed to patch. You have failed to mentioned if the IPS message is there. You have also failed to mentioned if you appropriately renamed the IPS patch.

You sir are my freaking hero. People like you deserve paypal donations.
I'm still waiting for the day that Snes9x and Zsnes can play together. Though I believe zsnes's netplay server thing is vastly awesome as is.
I could always throw the request for kalleria as always but its never gonna happen.

Ohh and btw the page is down. So it would be nice for a stable mirror.
