Optimum Configuration

Post by TheLostProphet »

Hi, I was just wondering what config do you guys all prefer? I've been having a bit of trouble with the standard config on my keyboard since it's a bit hard to use the shoulder buttons [D and C] at the same time as the others. My friend mentioned something about being able to play on a DS....which would be great if I wasnt still waiting for one to come in stock, haha. So yeah, your preferences? =)

I second the Xbox 360 pad. Wired is best. Get the XBCD drivers rather than Microsoft's since you can get rumble support via Directinput, so you can use Rumble with various emulators/games. Very versatile pad for many consoles.

I like my RadioShack PSX->USB adapters. DualShocks make nice SNES pads.
Why yes, my shift key *IS* broken.

The 360 pad is kinda meh for me. The d-pad sucks is my main gripe.

Xbox 1 S Controller + XBox->USB adapter + XBCD. Or a Saitek P880(I guess the P990 is just as good) WITHOUT the Saitek drivers(I prefer to use shift as a start button)

Agreed Xbox360 dpad sucks. Xbox1 is better, but i prefer Logitech precision gamepad. Real nice d-pad and buttons, so you can actually play SF2 with it: http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/gamin ... 1&cl=us,en

It's also really cheap

Ohhh, a gamepad, of course, why didn't I think of that, haha. Didn't know you could use a console controller, that's cool. Appreciate your suggestion creaothceann, it's a more natural thing to use WSAD. Oh my God, the Logitech is only $10!! Sweet =D

i don't play action games. i mostly use zsnes to catch up on all those rpg's i missed out on. but agreed that the d-pad isn't that wonderful. still an excellent pad as a whole, though.

I use a PC Joy Box (Saturn / PS / DC to USB) and either my PS2 Saturn pad or a real Saturn pad. For a while, Sega was making USB Saturn pads, but I never got a chance to order one. 6 face buttons (for fighting games) and two (non-analog) shoulder buttons is hard to beat.

Is it like teh DSLite pad? Because there's almost no diagonal range on the DSL.

good gamepad that would allow me to push:
UP+DOWN and/or
LEFT+RIGHT simultanously

no, that not a worn-out gamepad

And doesn't hurt your thumb to use.

I'm looking at you, default genesis controller.

Generally speaking a GOOD gamepad is explicitly designed to disallow such actions.
The pivot point needed for decent pad control conflicts with the desire to mash it straight down.
