installing on linux HELP!

Post by nenyo »

ok... im trying to install zsnes on my laptop. im running mandrake 10.1 and im a total linux newb. i read through the install.txt file, but only understood a little bit of it. when i tried to install it i got this
=================================================
./configure
checking build system type... configure: error: cannot guess build type; you must specify one
=================================================

i found a thing on this site that suggested some stuff and so i got this
=================================================
./configure --prefix=~/bin
configure: error: expected an absolute directory name for --prefix: ~/bin
=================================================

from what i could understand in the install.txt file i need to have a few things installed before i can intsall zsnes. ive got NASM but DJGPP looks like a windows prog so i didn't know what to do with it. do i just use wine? also, do i need MSVC or is that just an option?(i dont want to pay for anything) i also saw that ZLIB was needed. why? isn't it just another compression utitlity.
