Mega Man X3 in 1.42

Post by milesaway1980 »

Mega Man X3 doesn't seem to work in the 1.42 version. It's worked great on 1.36 over the last year or so but when I downloaded 1.42, I get an in game error message when I start the game. It says, "Interface Register ERROR!" Then at the bottom, it says "Press Button to Continue". I press a button, it starts up the game, does the little CAPCOM logo and jingle, but then goes to a glitched graphics screen.
Anyone know the reason for this or what I can do to fix it? The ROM I'm using has worked since the C4 chip was first emulated.

The problem you described doesn't happen to me. Post your ROM info using NSRT.

Download NSRT by clicking the NSRT in snkcube's post, and read the readme from there.
PS: You can click the link here: http://nsrt.edgeemu.com

When I opened the zip file that Mega Man X3 was in, unlike the others, it wasn't an .smc or an equivelant, it was listed as

mmx3.1
mmx3.2
mmx3.3
mmx3.4

I merged the files into one file and now it works fine. Thanks for leading me in the right direction.

I've heard of that format, but I've never seen it.
Anyhoo, that's what we're here for, MileAway1980.
Glad to be of assistance. :)

Some dumpers dump the rom image in parts (in milesaway's case, in four parts). ZSNES reads the loading code from the first part and and then checks for the others. Most SNES rom tools can join split rom images.

whicker: franpa is grammatically correct, and he still gets ripped on?
sweener2001: Grammatically correct this one time? sure. every other time? no. does that give him a right? not really.

ZSNES should load multipart ROMs, I've tested it myself...
NSRT also merges multipart...
May 9 2007 - NSRT 3.4, now with lots of hashing and even more accurate information! Go download it.

It does, but to me, multipart rom images feel kind of awkward to have.

I've used some multipart ROMs, but for some reason, Mega Man X3 wouldn't work as one under 1.42. It did in all the other versions.

Why is there multipart ROMs in the first place?

My version is a few posts back; although I don't know how accurate my explanation in it's simplicity is...

Has to dow ith copiers that only have floppies for IO. They split the ROM image into chunks that can fit on standard floppy disks.

After thinking for a while, my SNES copier also splits the ROM file into many parts.

I think the better question is: after all these years, why do they still get distributed in this way?

And the answer is: people suck.

Excellent answer.

I figured as much, but I mean, what are they called? (ie. Something to type into a search engine or Ebay.)

That site is amazing. I just found the one I have, which is called the"Supercom Partner 32M Turbo Super Version". My uncle bought it a long time ago in Hong Kong, but stopped using it years later. So I then picked it up and had it ever since.
