Can connect with TCP, can't connect with UDP. Please helpT_T

Post by lgmcben »

I'm behind Windows XP firewall and D-link G604t router.

After I turned the firewall off, I manage to connect and play with TCP protocol(which is very lag, unplayable)

But I can't connect using UDP protocol. I've done all the port forwarding.

When I'm a host, it says "Found Client" and stay like that.

When I'm a client, it says "Connecting to server" and stays like that.

Currently I forwarded+allowed both UDP and TCP ports : 4000, 7845, 4398 and just tried to host / join a game again and the result is still the same. (WinXP firewall is also turned off)

Any solutions are welcome.

Thank you >_<;

If you are SURE you set up the router correctly, then your ISP likely blocks UDP on those ports.

Thank you for the reply. But I don't think my ISP will block UDP now.

Could you check my post here please? to see if I config my router right...

Yes, please do, and remember that you need to foward both TCP and UDP.

From what you've said, it seems like the people you are playing with have not forwarded that port.

Hi. I just tried with ADSL modem and the UDP work wonderfully. So it is confirmed that my ISP don't blobk UDP ports.

About the router, I have read the page you mentioned and I did forward all mentioned ports. ; ; But still won't work.

hmm.. I guess I'll go with Modem then. (But would be great if, by any chance, I can get the router to work with this.)

Edited : I just tried enable DMZ(which SHOULD solve the problem) and it still don't work. >_<

I've found that even though DMZ should, in theory, forward all ports to a certain computer automatically, it doesn't seem to work all the time, especially with D-link.

Make sure you have the port forwarded on both your software and hardware firewall. If it works with a direct connection then it will work with correct port forwarding.
