shinespark

Post by Demios »

All the time I have spent playing metroid games. I used so many advanced techniques... I just saw the shinespark for the first time today... did it by mistake, now I feel like a total n00b.

It's called shinespark. It's also pretty neat. Lot of fun stuff you can do with it.

After getting the speed booster, run till you hit max speed. Hit down to crouch, jump then quickly hit the direction you want to go flying in. I looked it up as soon as I did it, and apparently if you hit a slope, you can stop and store it for another repeat.

Doesn't the bird type thing teach you that technique? If you've really played the game a lot, seems like it would be hard to miss.

Isn't there a point in the game where you have to use this technique?

if you load the game and just let it play through the intro a few times, they'll eventually show off a ton of fancy things. like bouncing off of your own bomb blasts, doing that powerbomb trick to get your health back, and the spineshark.

well maybe you should. that way you'd have a remote idea of what us super metroid masters are talking about and have something to contribute to this amazing topic.

tip #37 demios doesn't know:

if you go to the weapons subscreen, you can enable and disable various guns you have collected! amazing!!

Even better... you can equip more than one of them.

Assuming you aren't going for item completion, the only time it's REQUIRED is in the bird's room, which is avoidable(if you know it's there...).
It just makes life a lot easier the rest of the time.

The first URL also works if you drag it into the address bar...much easier even than copy/paste for bypassing referral restrictions (less clicking).

Works with IE and Firefox...probably others too.

[edit]
Apparently no longer works in IE7. Was this a "security" enhancement?!

Other fun techniques--
Activate just one weapon on your subscreen, then on the main screen highlight your power bombs. Depending on which weapon you chose you'll get a different effect.

Recharging your health using power bombs (I always thought that one looked pretty cool.)

Do a speed run, then use the X-ray scope in the middle of the run. How many Samuses are there?

There was also some trick you could use to activate all your weapons at once (typically, you can't activate the Spazer(?) and Wave at the same time). If you manage to do it, you can massively glitch the game...

Ahh, Super Metroid. The memories...

Discovering the shinespark 13 years after it was made.
This must break some record somewhere. Congrats, I guess.

Although that name completely sucks.

Well, I'm one of those people who still don't know about all the cool tricks in Super Metroid. I just play the game.

:/
whicker: franpa is grammatically correct, and he still gets ripped on?
sweener2001: Grammatically correct this one time? sure. every other time? no. does that give him a right? not really.
