Re: Redoing ZMV but want input

We tossed some ideas back and forth on IRC. Every idea proposed I can hack in a few minutes at the most. Perhaps you could suggest I'm not in my right mind, whatever. Aye; I was there. If we do do this, I'll probably be whipping up multiple levels of insanity which probably wouldn't faze me :/ Seem...

Re: Redoing ZMV but want input

No matter what DRM you add, a determined person will still be able to fake it. There are certain measures so difficult to circumvent that no one in their right mind would try, and anyone who succeeded would deserve the "glory". A checksum or cyclic redundancy check is far too simple, in m...

Re: Redoing ZMV but want input

1) What would you consider a reasonable ZMV size for a 10+ hour movie? 2) If an auto chapter function is added what intervals should a chapter be made, this will allow you to skip through a movie much faster. 3) Would you have a problem if your system was required to play games at 60fps (50fps for ...

Personally, it would seem that if you were actually going to do the kind of monumental, inconceivable task of porting all that code to another architecture, you might as well try to re-write the emulator in C instead. It would be approximately the same amount of work, and you'd likely achieve compat...

Windows XP does feel faster with 256 or 384 as opposed to 128 mbyte ram. That's because it's got a shitload of services running by default in the background, and at least eight to ten that you can't disable even if you want to. That is, unless you're willing to do things like sacrifice audio. I look...

Let's summarize this... o You say you didn't come here looking for a port. o Given a response of the possibility of a port, you continued making filler posts, mostly containing rambling theory. o You've managed to insult just about everyone who responded to you. A fairly simple question, then: Since...

Thank you Dr Moronskovich for that poor analysis. Actually, those who are -somewhat- experienced with OS like windows knows that it's never a good idea to put every files in a single folder. You implied you wanted to know why your request was belittled. I merely responded. As for the search, while phpBB's search function is good, it's not flawless. It often takes several queries to hunt down the requested information (but this is the same with any search, including google). "widesc...

This request was/is disturbing for two reasons... 1.) It's been asked for (and ignored/refused/neglected) quite a number of times before. 2.) You assume that it's easy to do. There's hardly anything that's easy to implement with ZSNES; the majority of the code is still not-completely-documented x86 ...

I'd say it's probably some sort of compulsive organization. Each game is its own "entity" to them, and not part of a larger whole. Therefore, it must be separated from all the others.

If you ask me, it's a form of segregation ;)

I wouldn't say that with such certainty. The NT kernel makes numerous adjustments, rearrangements, and the like without your consent. It also tends to have insufficient tweaking options (the few that are available are set/disabled in the registry). If the kernel pages (swaps) without your consent [w...

I don't know of any compression algorithms that can't be applied to arbitrary data. However, most compression schemes are designed to be efficient for particular patterns of data. JMA is designed for SNES ROMs, so that's what it will be most effective for. RAR, 7Z, and other formats are designed for...

Here's an idea, when a rom is loaded it could contact a central server sending a query that that certain rom has been loaded. It's just an idea, but it could be used so that you can see the popularity rating of a game based off of how many times people have loaded the game. The implementation of th...

When a game is compiled from source code and resource data into a complete binary, it would take intelligent analysis to seperate code from resource data such as sprites and other graphics. The programming logic is stored as numeric data, just as the graphics are. This is why you see garbage. A vie...

A bit more specifically, it's a dump of the state of the SPC700 (SNES sound processor). Data in the SPC dump includes the initial values of the processor registers and the SPC700's on-board memory. Inside the memory somewhere is the player program (already setup by the game itself) and the actual so...

You're looking for SPCs, not SFCs. SPC = Sound Processing Chip (referring to the SNES audio processor, the SPC700) SFC = Super FamiCom (the equivalent of the SNES in Japan) *.spc is a dump of data closely related to the SPC700 (primarily the registers and memory at the moment of dumping). *.sfc woul...

The original SNES resolution was tiny compared to modern day computer screen resolutions. When you use a higher resolution, the graphics essentially become blown up (what was once drawn as a single pixel could be drawn as a 2x2 box of pixels given the same color, for example). Filters are the soluti...

Timer-based saving is unnecessary, because from what I understand the "check and save" option commits the sram writes to disk immediately.

Better to do the writes as they're occuring, rather than every x seconds/minutes.

There's been much confusion and debate about whether the march flags actually include the mmx/sse/etc optimizations (they certainly imply them; I believe that's even mentioned in the gcc manual). An excellent point, Nach. With the massive amount of x86, the C optimization settings won't make much difference.

However, I believe grinvader is probably thinking of the future. In which case, adding other processor's preferred optimizations is not a bad idea.
